MANITOBA SENIORS GOLF ASSOCIATION INC.
2023 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
APRIL 12, 2023 – LARTERS GOLF CLUB
1. President Glenn Schur opening the meeting at 11:55am by leading attendees singing the
National Anthem and giving a Toast to the King.
2. Treasurer Ian Seymour provided the meal blessing.
3. President Glenn Schur requested a moment of silence in honour of deceased members since the
last AGM whose names were published in the 2023 Newsletter.
4. Lunch was enjoyed by all. Members thanked the Larter’s Staff for their service.
5. President Glenn Schur introduced the head table: Board members present including himself
were: Past President, Course Coordinator and PR Director George Steciuk, 1st Vice-President Bill Treytiak, 2nd Vice-President Alan Freedman, Tournament Director Nick Doherty, Secretary Larry
Strachan, Treasurer Ian Seymour, Scores and Handicaps Director Alex Kozubal, and Membership
Director Geoff Walker.
6. President Glenn Schur indicated that the AGM was duly constituted by our By-Law with Notice
Given to the Members via the Newsletter on March 31, 2023.
7. Secretary Larry Strachan moved acceptance of the meeting notes of our April 19, 2022, AGM
which were distributed to the members via the March 31, 2023, Newsletter. The motion was
seconded by Eric Nazar and carried.
8. Treasurer Ian Seymour spoke to the Financial Statements and Scrutineers report for the year
ended December 31, 2022, previously distributed to members. Ian made three motions:
a. Adoption by the members of the financial statements for the year ended December 31,
2022. Motion was seconded by Dave Kennedy and carried.
b. The appointment of an auditor by the members be waived for the year 2023. The
motion was seconded by Dennis Nelson and carried.
c. That members at large Eric Nazar and Jeff Wignall be appointed scrutineers to report to
the membership on the association’s financial statements for the year 2023. The motion
was seconded by Alan Freedman and carried.
9. Course Coordinator George Steciuk spoke to the 2023 Tournament Schedule and difficulties
related to rising costs for green fees and meals. Highlights were:
a. Sixteen Tournaments and seven meals.
b. Two new location (Netley Creek, River Oaks) and a return to Pinawa.
c. Golf and dinner will be in the $80 range.
d. Some tournaments will be restricted in numbers related to the number of carts the
courses have and they are not prepared to rent more due to cost.
e. All courses have been advised that we will not play cart path only golf.
f. Several members had questions and compliments on the schedule and requested
explanation why Grand Pines, Steinbach and Granite Hills were not in the schedule as
there were several explanations floating among members. George and Nick explained
that we have had issues with the pro at Grand Pines in the past and he would not
cooperate, cost for golf only at Steinbach was too high, and Granite Hills could not
accommodate our regular date there in August despite us playing at that time several
years in the past. Members suggested that in future these explanations be reported to
the members and the Board agreed to do that.
g. The final schedule with member costs will be distributed soon.
Bill Treyiak informed the meeting that the Board will be conducting a member survey in 2023 to
get member views on courses to play at and maximum comfortable costs to pay for both dinner
and non-dinner tournaments.
10. Tournament Director Nick Doherty introduced the Group Coordinators in attendance and
reminded members of tournament sign-up procedures. Nick told members that the registration
desk would close 15 minutes before t-time and members arriving late would have to get their
scorecard in the pro shop and find Treasurer Ian Seymour or himself to pay. Nick also reminded
all that the cancellation policy which was relaxed for the last two years would be applied as
usual in 2023. The policy was detailed in the 2023 Newsletter.
11. Membership Director Geoff Walker provided information on 2023 membership numbers: 197
members at present based on 20 retirements and 16 new members. Geoff welcomed all new
members and recognized new members that were in attendance. He requested all members to
notify him of any change in coordinates especially email and phone numbers. The member
roster book will be printed and hopefully be available at our first tournament in Carman.
12. Scores and Handicaps Director Alex Kozubal reminded members to turn in their scorecards at
the end of the tournament in the blue baskets provided. This year the points listing for the top
five golfers in each Group would be posted on the website a couple of times (middle and end of
season). Alex then presented Award Certificates to:
– Wayne Meyer – Hole in one at La Broquerie in 2022
– Brad Beghetto – 2022 Group A Champion
– Dan Malmas – 2022 Group B Champion
– Tino Tropea – 2022 Group C Champion
– Ian Seymour – 2022 Group D Champion
Wayne, Dan and Tino were not in attendance and would receive their Award later.
13. Alan Freedman outlined how the 50/50 draw would operate at non-dinner tournaments. Tickets
would be sold near the tournament registration area; the draw would be made once registration
closed and the winning number would be published for members on the website. Proof of the
winning ticket would be necessary to claim the prize. Winners can also email the 50/50
Coordinator Alan Freedman: alanfreedman@mymts.net that they have the winning ticket.
14. Past President George Steciuk presented the nominating report and the slate of Board Directors
for 2023:

– Tournament Director, Nick Doherty (appointed position)
– Membership Director, Geoff Walker
George asked if there were any nominations for the elected positions from the meeting floor
and there being none the slate of Board Directors was declared elected and appointed by
acclamation.
15. President Glenn Schur welcomed 2023 President Bill Treytiak and happily turned the meeting
over to him.
16. President Bill Treytiak presented an appreciation certificate and crests to Glenn Schur for his
leadership in 2022.
17. The meeting was adjourned by Bill Treytiak at 2:05pm.
18. Alan Freedman conducted the draw for the 50/50 and two members went home happy.

2. Past President Pat Corrigan provided Grace.
3. President George Steciuk requested a moment of silence in honour of deceased members since the last AGM whose names were published in the Newsletter.
4. Lunch was enjoyed by all. Members thanked the Breezy Bend Staff for their service.
5. President George Steciuk introduced the head table: Board members present including himself were: Past President Pat Corrigan, Alan Freedman nominated for 2nd Vice-President, Tournament Director Nick Doherty, 1st Vice President Glenn Schur, Secretary Larry Strachan, and Treasurer Ian Seymour.
6. President George Steciuk indicated that the AGM was duly constituted by our By-Law with Notice Given to the Members on April 1, 2022.
7. Secretary Larry Strachan moved acceptance of the meeting notes of our April 24, 2019, AGM which were distributed to the members via the April 1, 2022, Newsletter. The motion was seconded by John Bjore and carried.
8. Treasurer Ian Seymour spoke to the financial reports for 2019, 2020 and 2021 previously distributed to members. Ian made three motions on the reports:
a. That the 2019 and 2020 reports be approved. Motion was seconded by Bill Gilchrist and carried.
b. That the 2021 reports be approved. The motion was seconded by Bill Johnson and carried.
c. That a requirement for an auditor be waived and Member Scrutineers be used to review our future financial reports. The motion was seconded by John Deacon and carried.
9. Glenn Schur provided comments on our last two years of golfing under Covid-19 restrictions.
10. Tournament Director Nick Doherty introduced the Group Coordinators in attendance and reminded members of tournament sign-up procedures. Nick also reminded all that the cancellation policy which was relaxed for the last two years would be applied as usual in 2022. The policy was detailed in the April 1, 2022, Newsletter.
11. Secretary Larry Strachan provided information on 2022 membership numbers: 193 members, 9 Life members. 1 Honourary Life member and 8 Members on medical leave. Larry welcomed newmembers that were in attendance and indicated that the names of new members since our
2019 AGM were published in the Newsletter.
12. Pat Corrigan and Alan Freedman outlined how the 50/50 draw would operate at non-dinner tournaments. Tickets would be sold near the tournament registration area; the draw would be made once registration closed and the winning number would be published for members on the website. A member suggestion that the winning number be placed near score card tray drop-off was accepted. The winning ticket or photo of it would be necessary to claim the prize. Winners can also email the 50/50 Coordinator Alan Freedman: alanfreedman@mymts.net that they have
the winning ticket.

Pat asked if there were any nominations for the elected positions or volunteers for the appointed positions from the meeting floor and there being none the slate of Board Directors was declared elected and appointed by acclamation.
14. President George Steciuk welcomed 2022 President Glenn Schur and happily turned the meeting over to him. George thanked the current Board members for guiding him and being strong supporters in decision making throughout the 2021 season.
15. President Glenn Schur presented an appreciation certificates and crests to Pat Corrigan for steering us through the last two years of playing under Covid-19 restrictions. Pat will have the honour of being recognized as our “Covid-19” President.
16. President Glenn Schur then presented an appreciation certificate and crests to George Steciuk for serving us as 2021 President, a Life Membership Certificate to member Bruce Burke (in absentia), and a service appreciation certificate to past member Fraser Muldrew for serving us for many years as Secretary and Honourary Chaplain.
17. Glenn Schur in his old role of Course Coordinator conducted a draw for nine sets of golf passes from our 2021 Season and there were nine happy winners.
18. Pat Corrigan and Alan Freedman drew the lucky ticket for the 50/50 draw and there was another happy member.
19. The meeting was adjourned at 1:35pm
