ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES 2019
APRIL 24, 2019 – PINE RIDGE GOLF COURSE
1) Bill Gilchrist opened the meeting at 12 noon and led us in singing O Canada and a toast to the Queen.
2) Rev Fraser Muldrew gave grace and the meal was enjoyed.
3) Bill Gilchrist asked for a moment of silence for the deceased members we were aware of: Peter Kubas, Peter Kuryk, Wally Zapisocki, Bill Naven, Keith McConnell, Peter Charne, Gord Saywell
4) Thanks, were given to the staff at Pine Ridge for the meal and service.
5) Bill Gilchrist introduced the head table. Directors present were: Bill Gilchrist, President; Pat Corrigan, 1st Vice-President; George Steciuk, 2nd Vice President; Larry Strachan, Secretary; Ian Seymour, Treasurer; Glenn Schur, Course Coordinator and PR Officer; Bruce Mogg, Scores and Handicaps; Nick Doherty Tournament Chairman; and Rev. Fraser Muldrew.
6) AGM Notice to Members was made via the 2019 Newsletter.
7) Larry Strachan moved that the April 17, 2018 Notes of the 2018 AGM be approved as circulated. Tom Boomer seconded the motion and it was carried.
8) Ian Seymour, Treasurer, referred members to copies the 2018 Financial Report and Statements on their tables. The report shows an excess of revenue over expense for the year of $2,104 and unrestricted net assets at the end of the year of $10,097. The report was reviewed by member Roger Dennis and no changes were proposed as a result of the review. Ian requested questions on the report and there were none. Ian moved that the report be adopted as circulated. Jeff Wignall seconded the motion and it was carried. Ian moved that the appointment of an auditor of the report be waived for 2019, Dennis Nelson seconded the motion and it was carried.
9) Glenn Schur, Course Coordinator Director, presented the 2019 tournament schedule. Two new courses have been added: Southwood and Portage la Prairie. Pinawa has been dropped from the tournament Schedule for 2019. Glenn indicated that Granite Hills has shown an interest to host a meal for our tournament. He requested a show of hands from members present of interest in a meal at Granite Hills for 2019 and if a meal is of interest then moving up the tournament time to 10am. Most members supported this change and Glenn will negotiate with Granite Hills and advise if change in time and meal can be accommodated for this year.
10) Nick Doherty, Tournament Director, introduced the Group Coordinators that were present and reminded members to advise their coordinator of the games they will be playing. He referred members to the 10 Commandments To Speed Up Play that were distributed on the tables and emphasized that it the responsibility of us all to maintain speed of play during our tournaments. Tournaments are only cancelled by the golf courses and members should always check the website prior to leaving for play. The Board and Group Coordinators will make every effort to contact members when a tournament is cancelled by the golf course. A member questioned whether courses could relax the 90-degree cart rule when wet conditions are present. Nick indicated that was up to the courses, but we should respect their rules.
11) Larry Strachan, Secretary, presented the membership report. We currently stand at 194 members as compared to 200 in 2018. Larry introduced two new Group Coordinators: Brad Beghetto and Gerry Mehner. Larry then read the names of 14 new members and the Groups they were in those in attendance were welcomed.
12) Bruce Mogg, Scores and Handicaps Director, explained that net scores for group standings will be used again this year, the same as last year.
13) Bill Gilchrist notified members that the penalty fee for not cancelling participation in a tournament five days prior to the tournament has been increased to $30 from $20 as a further incentive for members to be diligent and to cover Association cost where a meal is provided. A member asked that if a member is cut from a tournament could notification be made to the member by Thursday prior to the tournament. The Tournament Director responded that the procedure is to notify members of their being cut by Monday of the week prior to the tournament.
Bill Giichrist also notified members of the need for all members to sign a Cart Indemnity/Liability Agreement Form which indemnifies the MSGA for all and any liability arising from the members use of a golf cart during our tournaments. Forms were provided in the Newsletter and will be available at tournaments and on the website with the Application Form.
Bill Gilchrist also reiterated that the courses not MSGA cancel tournaments as explained previously by the Tournament Director.
14) Bill Gilchrist presented the 2019 slate of MSGA Directors:
– President: Pat Corrigan – elected position
– Past President: Bill Gilchrist
– 1st Vice President: George Steciuk – elected position
– 2nd Vice President: Glenn Schur – elected position
– Secretary: Larry Strachan – elected position
– Treasurer: Ian Seymour – elected position
– Course Coordinator/PR Director: Glenn Schur and Eric Nazar – appointed position
– Scores and Handicaps Director: Bruce Mogg – appointed position
– Tournament Director: Nick Doherty – appointed position
– Hon. Chaplain: Rev. Fraser Muldrew
and requested any nominations from the membership for the elected positions. No nominations were made, and Bill declared that the 2019 Directors were elected and appointed by acclamation.
15) Bill Gilchrist welcomed and presented Pat Corrigan as our new President for the 2019 season.
16) Pat Corrigan presented Bill Gilchrist with an Outstanding Service certificate and a jacket in appreciation for his service to the MSGA. In his remarks Pat also reminded members to remember that we are the guests of the golf courses we play at and accordingly our actions and attitudes at the courses should reflect that.
17) Dave Kennedy indicated that if demand was enough golf shirts with MSGA logos could be ordered for purchase. Members should contact Dave if interested.
18) The AGM was adjourned at 1: 45pm.
19) The 50/50 draw was held with two lucky winners in attendance.
