Handicap System
Here is some information on handicaps and how they are calculated for MSGA purposes.
The program the MSGA uses is an official handicap calculation program from Northern Systems Inc.
This system, calculates a Handicap Index which is a numerical measurement of a player’s potential (not actual) scoring ability on a course of standard difficulty.
The Handicap index is calculated using the best 10 of the player’s last 20 rounds and updated with each new round played. (The calculation takes into account the rating and slope of each course played as well.)
If you have played less than 20 rounds, a lower number of games are used for the calculation. For example, if you have played only 13 games, it will use your best 6 games, etc. You have to have played a minimum of 5 games in order for a handicap to be calculated.
Because it is always based on your 10 BEST games, a good game will have more of an impact than a bad game.
The Handicap index travels with the golfer from course to course and is adjusted up or down depending on the relative difficulty of the course being played, resulting in a “Course Handicap” that is assigned for each game and shown on the score card that is handed out to each MSGA member.
The “Course Handicap” is the number of strokes a golfer receives for the specific course being played and represents the number of strokes he would require to play equitably against a “scratch” golfer (a golfer with a Handicap Factor/index of “0.0′’).
The more difficult the golf course, the more strokes the golfer receives and vice versa.
The relative difficulty of a golf course is determined jointly by Golf Canada and the provincial golf association using the USGA Course and Slope Rating System as administered by Golf Canada . These values are usually shown on the courses’ score card as “rating” and “slope”. Specially trained Course Rating Teams evaluate the difficulty of a golf course based on such variables as length and a number of obstacle factors (e.g. topography, bunkers, water hazards, severity of rough, etc).

CLUB CHAMPIONS / AWARDS
Club Champions will be decided for Groups A, B, C and D by points earned in finishing position within their group at each event.
At each event the Low Net winners will be declared for each group (A, B, C and D ).
All the Par 3 ‘s are open to all members for Closest to the Pin.
Members in Group A, & B must play from the white tees to be eligible for awards.
Attendance is kept by recording properly completed scorecards, turned in at each event. In order to be credited with attending, players MUST turn in a properly completed scorecard.
